Default Confusion regarding the link between 2 ayah

As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah brothers,

In surah 2:109 it says the following:

"Many of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed, out of envy from their ownselves, even after the truth (that Muhammad is Allaah's Messenger) has become manifest unto them. But forgive and overlook, till Allaah brings His Command. Verily, Allaah is Able to do all things"

Muhammad Muhsin Khan, in the footnote of his translation of this verse, says:

(2:109) This verse has been abrogated by Surah 9:29.

Clearly referring to the ayah in which Allah's command would come.

And in Surah 9:29 it says:

"Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

So what does it look like? Allah has commanded us to slay the Jewish and Christian infidels?! A lot of muslims say 9:29 is to do with the battle of tabuk, if we look at it in a historical context. However this isn't consistent with 2:109 where it tells us to(temporarily) forgive and overlook the mistakes of the Jews and Christians towards our religion. Now that Allah's command has come, it seems only right that we fight until the Jews and Christians submit.

Although in Surah 60:8 it tells us to forgive and be kind to those who don't hate us. I'm really confused with all these ayah, can someone give me an answer, and one that's consistent with all the ayah i mentioned?

Surah 2:109 has nothing to do with fighting those who fight us, which is the context of 9:29. I fail to see any connection between the two.

that's the connection. surah 9:29, according to Muhsin Khan, is the fulfilling of Allah's statement in surah 2:109 when He says "But forgive and overlook, till Allaah brings His Command"

In other words, Allah's command, that He said he would bring in Surah 2:109 for us to stop being forgiving and overlooking of the sins the Jews and Christians do against us, is brought in the surah 9:29 according to Muhsin Khan.

Your concerns are nicely clarified and explained here - I hope someone with have time to translate it. My question to you however, would be why you are allowing these misnomers to bother you after your conversion to Islam? Allowing anti-Muslim conjecture and polemics and propaganda to effect you, will perpetually waste a lot of precious time away and keep you from things that are truly beneficial to your dunya and akhirah.

And strength is from Allah.

wa alaikum assalam

My dear brother, you should take a step back, relax and read the advice given to you here:

I understand if you have faced deviation without a choice as if some of your friends or family present an argument for you but to dedicate time to look for it then believe me you will place yourself in great trials and confuse yourself.

After embracing Islam you need to understand Islam, your duties and rights. Then dedicate yourself to apply what you learnt, become good Muslim, inwardly and outwardly and worhsip Allah as He ordered us to.

And advice you need to take otherwise only blame yourself for what will happen to you eventually.
