Default Hypocrisy if not recite whole Quran in a month?

As'salaam'u'alaikum,

I have heard that it was been narrated that some of the companions? or Salaf? used to consider not reciting the Quran at least once a month, a sign of hypocrisy...

Q: Does such a narration exist? What is the reference to it, who said it, which book is it in, etc. (even if it's unauthentic)?

jazakAllahukhair

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته

This statement is understood as a warning since hypocrits do not recite Quran as it is obvious.

wallahu A'lam

JazakAllahukhair akhi,

Do you have a quote of this nature from anybody of the past by any chance? Reason I ask is because when I first heard this, I took it to heart, and it has definitely increased the amount I recite Quran Alhumdulillah. I was hoping maybe it would help others as well. However, I'd rather give a reference (person who said it, and where), than to just say "I heard people have said X" when telling people...

jazakAllahukhair

wasalam alaikum

I think it was based on the famous hadith of Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'Aas being told by Allah's Messenger to recite Qur'an within a month, he said he could do more than that, and he fasted alot too. Later on when he got older he regretted that because he got really weak.

I heard in a talk (abu eesa niamatullah in his talk on Adab al Mufrad) that the scholars derived from this hadith that the minimum amount of time you should finish the Qur'an is within a month. Allahu a'lam.

I was actually looking for a narration from someone of knowledge in the past, specifically relating to the hypocrisy if not read with in a month...

jazakallahukhair though!

I believe you are referring to the statement of Ibn Abbas who said: "whoever does not finish the Quran in one month then he has abandoned it"
